class Date d systems of Equations 15. Art bought $100 worth of stock and gained $25 per year. Kiley bought $400 worth of another stock and lost $35 per year. Use x for time and y for stock value. Write and graph equations to represent each situation. When did Art and Kiley have the same amount of stock value? Kiley: 300 0

Solution

x -> time

y -> Stock Value.

Given,

Art bought $100 worth of stock and gained $25 per year.

=> y = 100 + 25x equation 1

Kiley bought $400 worth of another stock and lost $35 per year

=> y= 400 - 35 x equation 2

When Art and Kelly will have same stock values, the y will be same for both,

Comparing equation 1 and 2 we will get..

100 + 25x = 400 - 35x

Lets solve for x

subtract 100 from both the sides

25x = 300 -35x

Add 35x both the sides

60x = 300

Divide both the sides by 60

x = 5

So, after 5 years Art and Kiley have the same amount of stock value.
