Determine the p-value for each of the following hypothesis scenarios:

I have 5 questions on this portion of the homework. I\'m only going to post two so I can be guided in the right direction. I need a little help finding the P value.

I know you do a two tailed test on the first one and a left tailed test on the second one. From there, I don\'t know where to go.

Determine the p-value for each of the following hypothesis scenarios: I have 5 questions on this portion of the homework. I\'m only going to post two so I can be guided in the right direction. I need a little help finding the P value. H0: ? = 1346 versus Ha: ? = 4000 versus Ha: ? not equals to 1346 and z = 2.53 H0: ?

Solution

For #1. Look up 2.53 on a standard normal table, and you get a probability of .9943. To find out how much is in the tail, subtract from 1. 1 - .9943 = .0057. Since this is two-tailed, you need to multiply by 2. .0057*2 = 0.0114

Answer: p value = 0.0114

For #2, Look up -1.39 on the the standard normal table, and you get a probability of 0.0823. This is the probability in the tail, since this is a left tailed test.

Answer: p value = 0.0823.
