the role of the computer clock during the completion of an instruction (fetchexecute) cycle.

Solution

The instruction cycle or fetch-execute-decode cycle is the basic operational process in which the processor fetches an instruction from memory decodes it and finally executes the decoded instruction.

Computer clocks at every action taken ie if it reads an instruction at say time T1, it will decode the instruction at the same time T1 and will execute the instruction at time T2 if the instruction is passed with direct addressing. If the instruction is passed with indirect addressing, at time T2 it will go to the memory location provided and at time T3 it will execute the instruction.

So computer clocking calculates the total time taken by the instruction to execute.

Direct Addressing means the value passed with the instruction is the value to be used while performing the action.

InDirect Addressing means the value passed with the instruction is inturn a memory location where the actual value is placed.
