2 A 2 15000 ft long 12inch diameter pipeline f 002 connects
     2. A 2. 15000 ft long 12-inch diameter pipeline (f 0.02) connects two reservoirs with a head difference of 200 ft. Determine if a 12-inch cone valve will provide good flow control. If not, select the preferred valve size. Include minor losses even if they are small (entrance k = 0.5 and exit-1.0).

  Solution
Difference of elevation = (loss due to entry + friction loss in pipe + exit loss)
200 = 0.5 * V2/ 2*g + fLV2/ 2 *g * D + V2/ 2 * g
200 = [ 1.5 + f* L/ D] * V2/ 2*g
200 = [ 1.5 + 0.02 * 15000/ 1 ] * V2/2*g
V = 3.607 ft/s
Q = V * A
= 3.607 * 22/7 * D2/4
= 11.34 * 1/4
= 2.834 cubic ft/s
Conclusion - since required velocity thus discharge generated are non negative and are giving satisfactory results, so we the valve is providing a good flow control.
