You work for a small city IT department and get a call from a customer saying that her laptop has failed. She left it connected to the docking station when she went to lunch, and after she returned, she moved the mouse to bring the laptop out of Sleep mode, but no image appears on the display. What do you suspect? (Choose three.)

A. The external mouse connection is loose.

B. The external monitor is turned off.

C. The battery overloaded.

D. The monitor contrast is too dark.

Solution

A, B, and D. There are any number of reasons why the display might not return under these circumstances. If the mouse used by the docking station has a loose connection, it is not communicating with the laptop to bring it out of Sleep mode. Check the connection or press the SPACEBAR a couple of times. If the external monitor contrast is too dark or the monitor is turned off, it can explain the problem very easily. Make sure the monitor is turned on and plugged into a power source, and check the contrast settings
