At the surface of the ocean the water pressure is 15 poundss

At the surface of the ocean the water pressure is 15 pounds/square inch. For every 1 foot of descent the water pressure increases by 0.434 pounds per square inch. Define a function j that determines the water pressure in terms of the number of feet you arc below the surface of the water, n. (Don\'t forget that the water pressure is 15 pounds/square inch at the surface). Use the function you defined in part (a) and identify the: Function name: Input: Output: Rule: Function definition: What is the change in the water pressure as you descend from 5 feet below the surface of the water to 29 feet below the surface of the water? pounds/square inch What is the change in the water pressure as you ascend from 24 feet below the surface of the water to 6 feet below the surface of the water? pounds/square inch

Solution

Po (pressure at surface of pond) = 15 pounds/sq inch

Now with every 1foot descent drop in pressure = 0.434 pounds/sq inch

So, for \' n\' foot descent drop in pressure = 0.434*n

So, function for pressure : j = 15 - 0.434n

function name = pressure , j

input = no. of feet below the surface , n

Rule = linear equation, j = 15 - 0.434n

c) n = 5 feet

j = 15 - 0.434*5 = 12.83 pounds/square inch

n = 29 ; j = 15 - 0.434*29 = 2.414 pounds/square inch

Change in pressure = 2.414- 12.83 = -10.416 pounds/square inch

d) n = 24 feet ;j = 15 - 0.434*24 = 4.584pounds/square inch

n = 6 feet ; j = 15 - 0.434*6 = 12.396 pounds/square inch

change in pressure = 12.396 - 4.584 = 7.812 pounds/square inch

 At the surface of the ocean the water pressure is 15 pounds/square inch. For every 1 foot of descent the water pressure increases by 0.434 pounds per square in
