If you select a single card how many ways are there to selec

If you select a single card, how many ways are there to select a king or face card or heart from a standard deck of cards?

Solution

There are 52 cards in a deck.

13 of those cards are hearts. There are 12 face cards but you must keep in mind that 3 of those face cards are also hearts so we have counted them already, hence we now count only 9 of them. There are also 4 kings but all of those are already counted (a king is a face card).

So if we need to choose a card which must be a king or face or a heart then there are 13+9=22 ways to do it.
