Solution

Cyclic AMP (cAMP) is synthesized from ATP by the action of the enzyme Adenylate cyclase. Normally the Ca2+ ion concentration is maintained at a constant level in the cell. The cell actively pumps calcium ions extracellular to maintain the normal 100nM concentration. cAMP activates PKA (protein kinase A) which phosphorylates target proteins and amkes the endoplasmic rreticulum to release ca2+ and thus the concentration increases.
