I am using a Logic analyzer to obtain a state listing for the Z80 processor. But I have a question. Why is the resolution of the timing measurement limited to +/- 2 nanoseconds?

Solution

Ans) The resolution of timing measurement is limited because the resolution of logic analyzer is limited means logic analyzer cannot measure signals faster that +/- 2 nano seconds. You can choose better logic analyzer with high resolution to get faster measurements.

The resolution of logic analyzer depends on its probe length and its design becasue probe acts as load to the logic analyzer ,it also depends on the capability of its internal measuring unit (like its clock speed internal etc) based on this factors manufacturer will give the resolution of how fast changes in signal it can measure
