Determine the process to transform a hunk of Martensite into 50% pearlite and 50% Bainite each with the maximum possible ductility. Specify procedures with specific temperatures and times. Step 1. Step 2. Step 3. Step 4. What is final overall hardness?

Solution

This is a isothermal transformation diagram for an iron-carbon diagram alloy of eutectoid composition, for this we assume the following terms:-

For 50% pearlite and 50% bainite

Step – 1: Temperature of the material at range of 720 degree Celsius, Then hold the material at the time range of 6 sec appx. by this the material transform to 50% to pearlite.

Step – 2: Then at 450 degree Celsius hold the material at for 12 sec appx. At this stage the 50% material transform to bainite.

Step – 3: Cooling the material at room temperature so that the coarse grain structure appear to the solid microstructure.

Brinell Hardness number - 207 HB, Ball diameter - 4.20 mm

Material is Annealed steel
