Car engine experiment. Discuss the volumetric efficiency obtained at 3200RPM for throttle settings between 15% and 50%. Explain any variation? How can the volumetric efficiency be improved for gasoline engines in general? please explain the chart below ? what is the dot represent and why is it going up ?

On y axis volumetric efficiency and on x-axis of throttle valve opening position

With opening of the throttle valve more widely, more volume of charge (air+fuel mixture) may be drawn into cylinder.

Volumetric efficiency is the ratio of actual volume of charge

Drawn into the cylinder to the swept volume of the cylinder.

Engine draw the more amount of charge into the cylinder by wide opening of the throttle valve.if it is opened partially it can draw less amount of charge. If more charge I supplied it can develop more power.

In the above graph with increase in valve opening more amont of charge entered into the cylinder.hence volumetric efficiency is increasing with wide opening of the valve.
