Research had demonstrated that bicultural individuals (i.e., individuals who identify with belonging to more than one culture) in some cases report feeling conflict between their two cultural identities. A four-item scale (Haritatos & Benet-Martínez, 2002) was developed to assess the level of perceived conflict that a bicultural person feels. Participants can respond with any response from 1 (Strongly Disagree) to 7 (Strongly Agree). The bicultural scale listed below is often used with individuals who identify with both a Mexican as well as an American culture. Working from the assumption (and this is an assumption for the sake of this exercise) that the average bicultural, Mexican American individual in the U.S. scores a 3.6 on this scale with a standard deviation of 1.3, identify those individuals from the data below who are most conflicted between their two cultures. By doing so, we hope to identify the people who are most at-risk for acculturation issues. In this situation, the individual’s average score on the Bicultural Conflict Scale is given below and higher scores indicate more reported conflict whereas lower scores indicate less reported conflict.
I am conflicted between the Mexican and American ways of doing things.
I feel like someone moving between two cultures.
I feel caught between the Mexican and American cultures.
I do not feel trapped between the Mexican and American cultures. (Reversed scored)

<1 > Identify the population for this study.
< 2> Identify the sample for this study.
< 3> Identify the purpose of this data analysis (i.e., what is this study attempting to accomplish?).
< 4> Is this study an experiment?
yes or no
why or why not?
<5 > (List each individual, by their participant number, from those who report the highest level of conflict between the two cultures to those who report the lowest level of conflict according to their z-score. Report their z-score next to their participant number.
< 6> Circle those individuals above who are of concern to the researchers. For this study, the researchers are concerned about those who are greater than one standard deviation above the population mean.
