Describe what happens to a semiconductor if it is doped by equal amount of donors and acceptors?
Solution
The carrier concentration of intrinsic semiconductor n2 = n*p where n and p is N TYPE AND P type concentration. If you add equal number of impurities to this semiconductor then quantity wise the carrier concentration should be same. However, if you are selecting the impurities from either III or V group i.e. acceptors (p-type) and donors (n-type), though their quantity number is same but their physical properties are different. Therefore, new intrinsic materials after adding these impurities would not be similar physical properties that of original intrinsic semiconductor. New materials crystalline structure will depend on the added impurities and it will not same as the original intrinsic material.
