A particle travels in a straight line with a velocity of v

A particle travels in a straight line with a velocity of v = (20-0.05s^2) m/s, where s is in meters. Determine the acceleration of the particle at s = 10 m.

Solution

v = ( 20 - 0.05 s2 ) m/s

a = dv / dt = - 0.1 s * ds/dt

ds/dt = v

a = -0.1 s * v = -0.1 s * (20 - 0.05s2)

= -2 s + 0.005 s3

Acceleration of the particle at s = 10 m

a = -2 * 10 + 0.005 (10)3

= -15.0 m/s2
