In every single college campus, students can buy food from a variety of food chains and restaurants. We hypothesize that almost every single college student at the University of Colorado buys food on campus. However, how often? This study explores the frequency of college students buying food on campus and how profitable it would be for a food chain to take their business to a college campus, like the University of Colorado. We surveyed 100 students on campus through electronic media. The question asked was “How many times do students buy food on campus in one week?” The students chose from seven responses, “Zero times,” “Once a week,” “Twice a week,” “Three times a week,” “Four times a week,” “Five times a week,” and “Six or more times a week.” Our sample mean came to 2.7. We had concluded with a 95% confidence level that the population mean would fall between 2.4258 and 2.9742. Then, we decided to hypothesis test the sample mean. We stated the null hypothesis as = 3 and the alternative hypothesis as 3. As we tested the sample mean with the standard deviation of 1.382 and t­stat of 1.984, we found that fell in the rejection zone. Therefore, we reject the null hypothesis, stating that the population mean does not equal 3. We found that the population mean is significantly lower than our calculated population mean from our sample. To have a correct null hypothesis, we could have stated the sample mean will be lower than 3. According to our data collected, we advise that restaurants not solely depend on campuses for their revenue. However, you could argue that a sample of 100 is not large enough to represent a campus of 31,515 students. The survey was only distributed to the School of Business and the Union building. We did not ask students on other parts of campus, like the School of Medicine or the Social Work building. One could argue that the data was fairly biased and should have expanded to a number of different areas on campus.
