a Explain how cor pulmonale may develop b Explain two causes
a. Explain how cor pulmonale may develop.
b. Explain two causes of left-sided heart failure, one related to the heart and one systemic.
c. How should a patient with left-sided heart failure be positioned in a reclining chair or bed for treatment?
d. Explain why an incompetent valve reduces the efficiency of the heart contraction.
e. Would symptomatic mitral valve prolapse cause a cyanotic or an acyanotic condition? Explain your reasoning.
Solution
A) Cor pulmonale is a condition that commonly arise as a complication of high blood pressure in the pulmonary artery.
As it occur in the right ventricle of the heart , it is also known as right sided heart failure
B) 1. Left sided heart failure occur when the left ventricle doesn\'t pump the adequate amount of the blood. This prevent the body from getting enough oxygen. which causes shortness of the breath
2. Other systemic reason is obstruction in the sytemic aorta, The systemic aorta arises from the left ventricle , any obstruction in the aorta can lead to pressure which can causes heart failure
C) A right lateral position is benneficial as it results in lower sympathetic tone than lying your body on the left side this helps in controlling the immediate impact of heart failure
D) An incompetent valve doesn\'t close the chambers correctly which on contraction will pusht eh blood to other chambers and inturn will effect the efficiency of the chambers . This can lead to inadequate chamber functioning and can lead to heart failure
E) Mitral valve prolapse is a most common conidition which is responsible for heart murmur. The tricuspid value or mitral valve is responsibel for the cyanotic condition as when the mitral valve doesn\'t gets closed correctly it again pushes the blood into the right atrium which can then pushes the blood back to the body which can cause cyanosis.
