You just updated a customer’s computer with a new PCI Express video card, closed the computer, and powered up the PC. You get an error message on the monitor after the computer has powered up saying “No power to video adapter.” What could be the likely problems? (Choose two.)

A. You forgot to plug in the power lead from the video card to the power supply.

B. The power supply lead to the video card is connected, but the lead has failed.

C. The battery on the video card is defective.

D. The memory on the video card is defective.

Solution

A and B. Video cards sometimes require more power than the motherboard can supply and may need a direct connection from the power supply. If you have upgraded the video card on the computer, either you forgot to attach the power supply lead or it is defective. When you install or replace any adapter card in a computer, verify that all of the required connections are firmly in place before closing the PC case and powering up the unit.
