An atom not a hydrogen atom absorbs a photon whose associate
An atom (not a hydrogen atom) absorbs a photon whose associated wavelength is 475 nm and immediately emits a photon whose associated wavelength is 1200 nm. How much net energy is absorbed by the atom in this process?
Solution
energy absorbed = energy taken - energy released
=> E = hC/(lemda 1) - hc/(lemda 2)
=> E absorbed = (6.62*10^-34*3*10^8)/(475*10^-9) - (6.62*10^-34*3*10^8)/(1200 *10^-9) = 2.526*10^-19 J
= 1.57 eV
