Generally Highways or Roads under service will require following maintenances:
1.SURFACE MAINTENANCE: Due to continuous vehicle traffic on the roads the top layer or the pavement will tends to deform. So after a particular span of time the gravel/spelling will be exposed out and which will form the unevenness. Due to which the friction between the wheels and pavement surface will increase and deformation takes place.
MAINTENANCE: Repairing the surface is the first and foremost thing that is, prevention is better than cure so in the initial days of deformation we can go for the resurfacing with concerned materials (bitumen and gravel spelling’s).
2. ROADSIDE AND DRAINAGE MAINTENANCE: Due to improper roadside drainages in the rainy seasons and improper underground drainage systems (drainage leakages)water will coagulate on the rods and which will leads to the deformation of pavements.
MAINTENANCE: Clearing and cleaning of drains in periodic time. Reshape or re-grade ditch, line drain. Properly maintain the manholes and underground pipes/drainages.
3.SHOULDERS: As said in the point number 2 due to heavy rains and improver drainages and pipe leakages water will create the soil erosion on the side’s shoulders of the embankments. Due to this the deformation will takes place to the pavements.
MAINTINACE: Obstructions washed onto the shoulders should be removed. Vegetation control should be taken care to main the better shoulders. We should Reshape or re-grade shoulder surface to the correct level with respect to the pavement level always at periodic intervals.
4.SNOW / ICE CONTROL: Mostly in the winter seasons ice will form on a large scale on the pavements. Here with Ice reduces coefficient of friction between tires and surface/pavement. Which makes the vehicle control almost impossible. And which leads to accidents and pavement damages.
MAINTINACE: So snow from the roads should be removed to reduce the chances of accidents. We have many advanced equipment’s and technologies.
5.BRIDGE MAINTENANCE: Due to continuous vehicle traffic on the bridges bridge reinforcement will be exposed to the atmosphere and corrosion will takes place. Due to the dust formation in the bridge desk joints will get rigid. We are aware that due to the improper driving or accidental damages will occur to the safety rails of the bridges. Piers of the bridge will be surrounded by score and which will damage the outer most layer the pier surfaces.
MAINTENANCE: Exposed steel work must be cleaned and repainted. Cleaning and resealing of Deck joint. Damage to guard rail, must be Repaired and strengthened & Resurfacing of deck. Scour around and under piers and abutments should be removed.
