Where, within the nucleosome crystal structure, is the DNA itself most highly ordered

Solution

The DNA in the nucleosome crystal structure is most higly ordered. It is often referred to as a structure similar to that of a thread wrapped around a spool. Nucelosome is the basic packaging of DNA in which the segment of DNA is wrapped around 8 units of histone proteins. These are the most fundamental units of DNA packaging. The entire genome in the DNA is packed in this format, ensuring that the genome is properly accessible. For eg: Approx 2m of nuclear DNA is packed in 10 µm diameter.
In the nucleosome crystal structure , the DNA is highly compact with the formation of chromatin. The repeating nucleosome structure are joined by a linker DNA forming a 10nm structure, imitating beads on a string. These have a packing ratio of 5-10, in a 10 nm structure. Here, the DNA is most highly ordered.
