Mosquitoes are responsible for millions of deaths worldwide. They act as vectors for a variety of diseases. THe underdeveloped and developing nations in the tropical areas are severly affected by the mosquito born diseases. Wiping off an entire species is higly impractical and also unethical. Very few species of the hundreds of species of mosquitoes are able to transmit diseases and that too only female mosquitoes. Male mosquitoes do not act as vectors because they do not feed on blood.Instead of concentrating on elimination of mosquitoes, more resources are to be diverted to educating people, good sanitation. Genetically modified mosquitoes which mate with wild strains and reproduce progeny which cannot get infected by parasites/viruses are also tested, but it is highly impossible to replace all wild type strains with genetically modified strains. Instead of concentrating on wiping off the mosquito population, more research is to be done in dicovering vaccines against mosquito born diseases. It is easier to vaccinate every individual on the planet than killing all the mosquitoes.
