Why might mitosis asexual reproduction be preferred to sexua
Solution
1. Mitosis is a type of cell division where in the parental cell divides to produce two identical daughter cells. These cells are exact clones of the parental cells and there is no recombination of the nuclear material.
In eukaruptic cells this type of cell division occurs mainly to bring about the growth of the organism by adding numerous cells of the same type and also helps in replacing the worn out and damaged cells.
However in lower organisms mitosis occurs during asexual reproduction to make a number of cells of the same kind by repeated divisions to enhance the population of the organisms as seen in many cases of fungi.
Mitosis is referred to as asexual life cycele as it involves only one parental cell thus the advantage being able to reproduce even in absence of mating partner which automatically increases the chances of survival and proliferation of the progeny and hence the population.
Another advantage of mitosis is organisms are able to survive under extreme conditions and can produce an offspring in absence of a mate.
2.In any cell the growth and replication of a cell follows an orderly, organized predictable steps which make the cell cycle.
The cell cycle is basically divided into two phases the interphase and the and the Mitotic M phase which is followed by cytokinesis.
The interphase is once divided into G1,S, and the G2 phase during which the replication of the DNA takes place while the Mphase represents the M phase during which karyokinesis(division of the nucleus) and cytokinesis(division of the cell takes place.
