If a mutation on the outside of a protein causes an amino acid to change from a valine to leucine, what will most likely happen to the protein function? A. The protein will likely be misfolded and aggregate, disrupting function B. The protein will likely fold properly and function will probably not be affected C. The protein will likely not fold up into its correct 3D structure D. The protein will likely not form alpha helices or beta sheets
Solution
According to my understanding is that a mutation that exchanges (say) a hydrophobic group for another (like leucine for valine) doesn\'t change the protein function much. Switching a lysine for cysteine does impair function considerably.
