Construction projects can be delayed for a no of reasons some of them are described below -

1.) Non availability of material.

2.) Weather conditions , construction is difficult to carry out in rainy and extremely cold climates.

3.) Fund glitch with the contractor or not suitable amount of funds with contractor.

4.) If site plan is not clear.

5.) Change in design during construction.

6.) Low labour productivity

7.) Lack of communication between Engineer and contractor.

8.) Delay in supply of goods.

To overcome this some contracted modifications can be done while framing the contract -

Before framing the contract a detail design should be made and should be carefully examined before floating the contract. Before awarding the contract it should be made sure that contractor has enough experience, skills, knowledge and most importantly funds to carry out the work. Careful monitoring and regular meetings should be held between the contractor and the engineers. Availability of goods of right quantity and at right time should be taken care off.
