Total Expense = $37,100

Cost of Sales (Variable) = 40% of Revenue = 40% of $34,000 = $13,600

Selling and adminstrative expense = $37,100 - $13,600 = $23,500

Variable Selling and administrative expense = $8,500

Fixed Selling and administrative expense = $23,500 - $8,500 = $15,000

Contribution margin ratio = Contribution / Sales *100 = $11,900/$34,000*100 = 35%

Variable expenses ration = Variable cost / Sales *100 = $22,100 / $34,000*100 = 65%

Break even point = Fixed cost / contributon margin ratio = $15,000/35% = $42,857.14

Margin of safety = Current level sale - break even point = $34,000 - $42,857.14 = -$8,857.14

Current sale = $34,000

Required increase in sale for breakeven = $42857.14 - $34,000 = $8,857.14

If company will make efforts and do some expenditure on advertisement etc then this increase seems acheivable in short term.

Target contribution = $4,000 + $15,000 = $19,000

Target Sales = Target contributon / Contribution margin = $19,000/35% = $54,285.71

Required increase in sales = $54,285.71 - $34,000 = $20,285.71

Required increase in sales is 60% of current level sales which is a high percentage that seems non achievable in short term.
