The material is 2\" x 11 gauge A500 steel (square tuning)
This design has a winch and cable rates for 1200 lbs that holds the suspended weight.
How would I go about finding normal and shear stresses, moments, and the location on the design where the most stress will be found when a weight is suspended?
200 SHEETS FILLER Solution
Assume max wt of 1200 lb at the load end.
Find moments about the angular joints: you have two joints one on top and other at bottom:
Stress (shear ) = MC/I where I calculated for square section of stay.. Normal = Reaction/area
If upright vertical, there is same moment about lower joint.
Howvever have a brace at lower joint, so take moment about there also which should add to the moment arm.( 2ft + .707 ft)
calculate force along lower stay, and get stress there.
Max moment occurs
