3 Homeuwork Continued 5 3 How do you find the area of the red part??

Solution

The total area of the 2 squares is (3*3) + (5*5) = 9 + 25 = 34

There are 2 traiangles : The first has base and height as 5 each. Area of that triangle = (1/2) * Base * Height = 1/2*5*5 = 12.5

The second triangle has a base = 3+5 = 8 and height = 3. The Area of this triangle is 1/2 * 8 * 3 = 12

Therefore the area of the red portion = 34 - 12.5 - 12 = 9.5
