You are tasked to select a material, for the scissors, from three materials, i.e. a stainless steel, alumina (Al_2O_3) and Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) - a thermoplastic polymer (the properties of these materials are listed in the table below). Stainless steel is the best option here for scissors for kitchen applications by observing the properties as it has th adequate strength,ductility and fracture toughness thus it provides a balance of all the properties required for kitchen applications. Alumina cannot be used as the scissor material as it has very low value of fracture toughness and it is brittle in nature as its percentage elongation is 0.PET cannot be used as scissor material as it has very low strength and a very low value of hardness also.
