This problem involves building a steel frame high rise office building with three levels below ground(30 feet below ground). The building is 40 stories high and is located in the center of a city. The soil conditions involve soft clay to a depth of 120 feet with a water table at 20 feet. The project needs to be completed in 800 days. Determine the amount and types of equipment you feel should be used on this project.
Solution
Given Data:-
Depth below ground = 30 ft.
we consider the width of project is 100 ft.
Excavation qty = 30 x 100x 120 = 360000 Ft3 .
we have to fill the same qty as we have excavated = 360000 ft3 which is filled by hard murum or clay .
so consider 1 vehcile of capacity = 150 ft3.
So = 360000/150 = 2400 trip of vehicle shall be done.
so we have to arrange the 1 vehicle for transportaitron of clay or hard murum. on daily basis so we can completed the filling work within 800 days.
now we have to calculate the excavator number
1 excavator can excavate the 250 ft3 in one day so 360000 / 250 = 1440
if we have to complete the excavation in 800 days = 1440 /800 = 1.8 Says 2
we need 2 numbers of excavator for excavation.
you have to excavate 30 feet down to earth surface, and ground water table is 20 feet below the ground level. So we need to excavate 10 feet below the GWT(ground water table). for this purpose we have to use excavator named \"HYDRAULIC EXCAVATOR\"
If excavation below GWT is to be performed, the work area must be enclosed with an impervious structure, for this \"Cassion\" structures are used.
Caisson is a structure that is constructed at location if the project site is on land, but if the project site is offshore, it is constructed on land and then floated to the site offshore. In the caisson method of construction, the excavation is performed from within the permanent structure. After the caisson is in position, excavation from within the caisson structure begins.
And above GWT we can use Crawler excavators, Backhoe, Dragline excavators whatever is suitable.
