(Express your answer in billions of gallons rounded correctly to the hundredths place.) billions of gallons (ii) Quantify the bottled water consumption increase from 2011 to 2012 in terms of relative change. (Express your answer as a percent rounded correctly to the nearest tenth of a percent.) % (iii) Estimate the per capita consumption from 2011 from data in the statement. (Express your answer rounded correctly to the nearest tenth of a gallon.) gallons

Solution

(i) Absolute change = Consumption in year 2012- Consumption in year 2011
= (9.67 billion - 9.1 billion ) gallons
   = 0.57 billion gallons
(ii) Realtive Change (in %) = Absolute change *100 / consumption in year 2011
   = 0.57*100 / 9.1
= 6.26%
(iii) Per capita consumption in 2012 = 30.8 gallons
   Increase in consumption = 6.7%
consumption in 2012 = consumption in 2011* (1+Increase in consumption percentage)

consumption in 2011 = 30.8/1.067
= 28.86 gallons
