a. Explain why bone marrow damage can result in multiple, recurring infections.
b. Explain why excessive bleeding occurs with aplastic anemia.
c. Explain why it is necessary to treat the bone marrow recipient with chemotherapy and radiation before transplant.
Solution
a. The damage in bone marrow causes various diseases like Leukemia, multiple myeloms etc and along with these several recurrent infections happen to tak eplace. his is because, bone marrow is one of the primary immune centre of the body and mal funcioning oif such organ will lead to abnormality in function of other associated immune cells like WBCs.
Damaged bone marrow cannot produce B cell which could further differentiate into Antibodies, to prevent the infection.
Thus various recurrent infections have been found to be reported in the patients with damaged bone marrow..
b,
Excessive bleeding is found in the patients of Aplastic anaemia. This is because in the condition of anemia, Red blood cells are not formed. Due to all these, the platelet count decreases severely leading to excessive bleeding,.bone marrow stem cells get damaged.
c. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy or radiations are give to the bone marrow recipient, because the transplant of the bone marrow is very intense reactions, so these chemo and radiotherpay make the recipient cell compatible and make room for recieving bone marrow.. An empty marrow is required for the growth of new bone marrow cells because they will produce their new blood production system.
