Solution
The case where the force is applied on the centre of mass will have more translational acceleration.
The force which is applied on the tip would produce translation as well as rotational motion. As, the tip would tend to move more than the far end, it would produce rotational motion along with the translational motion. So, the total energy will be distributed between the rotational and translational energy.
Where as, the force being applied on the centre of mass would only produce translational motion. So there would be only translational acceleration and it would be higher than the other case where force is being applied on the tip.
