The Son of Sevenless (SOS) is a group of genes that encode guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEF), which act on Ras subfamily. The Sos protein encoded by this gene is involved in the downstream operation of Ras/MAP kinase pathway. Ras-GTPases functions as molecular switches that bind to downstream effectors (eg: c-Raf) and results in their activation.
