Why is differential rotation important concept when discussing solar features?

1.The sun, like the earth generates a magnetic field that extends out into space. However the sun\'s magnetic field changes both its shape and intensity over the surface as well as over the time. Actually, in the sun, the flows of hot plasma in the convection zone creates the solar magnetic field. The plasma is a hot gas soup with many free charged particles (electrons and Protons). The moving charges create a current and the change of electric field induces or rather produces the solar magnetic field,just like the current in coils of wire around the nail.The convection current in case of sun is driven by the fusion reactions taking place in the sun. So these flows or mechanical motions of hot plasma which also is sometimes called as solar dynamo creates the magnetic field which causes sunspots.

2.The Sun\'s differential rotation means the rate of rotation or speed of rotation is more for equatorial regions than the polar zones. This is a very important concept. Because the more the speed of rotation, the more is the flows of hot plasma in that region of Sun. So the magnetic field does not only depend on the the time in case of Sun, it also depends on where we try to calculate, thatmeans it changes over the surface of sun and as a result the rate of creating sunspots in different regions of sun\'s surface is also different. That is why the differential rotation is such an important concept which pulls out many important and interesting questions that can be asked about the Sun.
