1) Digital encoders are used in control systems for position and speed detection. Consider that an encoder is set up to output 3600 zero crossings per revolution. What is the angular rotation of the encoder shaft in degrees if 16 zero crossings are detected?

2) Give the advantages of dc motors for control-system applications.

3) What are the effects of inductance and inertia in a dc motor?

Ans)

   Given for 1 revolution i.e 360o encoder is set to ouput 3600 zero crossings

As the encoder ouput is directly proportional to the angular rotation of shaft

for 16 zero crossings angular rotation of shaft is =(360/3600)*16=0.1*16=1.6o
