Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD deficiency) is also known as favism (after the fava bean).

G6PD deficiency is a genetic disorder that occurs most often in males. This condition mainly affects red blood cells whose function is to carry oxygen from the lungs to tissues throughout the body. In affected individuals, there is a defect in an enzyme called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase causes red blood cells to break down prematurely. The destruction of RBCs is called hemolysis.

Explaination:

If the woman\'s father was G6PD deficient and if we assume her mother was either a carrier or normal, the woman must be a carrier because she inherited the X chromosome her father. That X chromosome has the mutation. If she (a carrier) marries a normal man (XY) their sons have a 50% or 1/2 chance of carrying the mutation because they inherit one X chromosome from the mother which can either be the X with mutation or without mutation and Y from the father which do not carry the gene anyways.
