Steps to ensure environmentally friendly supply chain

In order to make sure our supply chain is environmentally friendly below are the major steps we need to take in consideration.

First, we need to minimize transportation miles. I understand we might have providers from all over the world for our production process but we need to lower the transportation contamination by the reduction of the CO2. I suggest we find local suppliers, this way we will have our raw materials faster and we will not be contaminating our world.

We also need to choose material that is sustainable for our products, this will also be a good effect to our final customers because they will know this is a company who has a commitment with the plant and its resources, this is good publicity as well.

Now, we need to talk to the design department because we need to design products to fit recycle materials.

Another important part of the supply chain is the packaging, we need to start using green packaging on our products, I think this is one of the easiest way to start adding sustainability to our company. We could use corrugated boxes that are 100% recyclable.

Our local fleet also needs to change into new technology, trucks that use low carbon to help the reduction of CO2 as well.

Reduce the paper impression of documents, with the technology available today we don’t need to be printing large documents wasting paper and therefore trees. I suggest to use electronic documents and e signatures to help the forests.

If we implement all of these steps I strongly believe our company will be environmentally friendly, however this is not something easy to do, we need to change the mindset of management and create this into a culture, we need to changes as soon as possible.
