Determine which scatterplot shows the strongest linear corre

Determine which scatterplot shows the strongest linear correlation. Which shows the strongest linear correlation? Explain what is meant by the coefficient of determination, r2. Give an example to support your result. Define the terms predictor variable and response variable. Give examples for each.

Solution

1) Graph C represent the strongest linear relationship among the three.

4) Coeffient of determination R2 is the proportion of variation explained by the regressor x. Values of R2 that are closer to 1 implies that most of the variability in y is explained by the regression model.

Ex) suppose from a regression model we obtain a coeffiecient of determination as 0.9018 this means that 90.18% of the variability in y is explained by the regression model.

5) Predictor variables are independent variables used in regression to predict another variable. It is also referred as regressor.

Response variable is a dependent variable that can be observed or estimated by using predictor variable. It is a variables of interest in an experiment.

Ex: In a cake receipe.

Predictor variables are Baking time, oven temperature.

Response variable are Moisture of the cake, thickness of the cake.
