Introduction We have a stock ampicillin 10gL powder and want

Introduction: We have a stock ampicillin 10g/L (powder) and want an ampicillin concentration of 100mg/L in each bottle of media.

Answer these questions before you can calculate the Introduction question.

1. How many mls ampicillin must be added to each 400ml bottle of media?

2. How much ampicillin do we need for the entire class assuming each pair needs 8 plates ~20ml/plate. Class of 10 (5 pairs).

3. How much ampicillin stock solution must be prepared for the class? (How many mg in how many mls?) I want you to make this solution from the powdered stock ampicillin and the concentration will still be 10g/L (Go back to the introduction)

Solution

Introduction: We have a stock ampicillin 10g/L (powder) and want an ampicillin concentration of 100mg/L in each bottle of media.

Answer these questions before you can calculate the Introduction question.

1. How many mls ampicillin must be added to each 400ml bottle of media?

Stock = 10g

Required =100 mg/L =0.1g/L

For 1 L---->0.1g

For 0.4 L----> 0.04g or 40mg

Weight 40mg into 400mL media to get 100 mg/L

2. How much ampicillin do we need for the entire class assuming each pair needs 8 plates ~20ml /plate. Class of 10 (5 pairs).

Answer:

5pairs; 8 plates for each pair; ~20 ml/plate = 5 x 8 x 20 mL = 800 mL

3. How much ampicillin stock solution must be prepared for the class? (How many mg in how many mls?) I want you to make this solution from the powdered stock ampicillin and the concentration will still be 10g/L (Go back to the introduction)

For the entire class we need two bottle of media with 100mg/L Ampicillin

Therefore we need 0.08g or 80mg Ampicillin
