I need to do a 2 sample t-test in Excel to see if men and women get paid the same in this example. If the Salary is my Variable 1, what is my Variable 2? Can I do this again with Compa and get different results? I am lost and am having a hard time finding help.

Solution

Having the data analysis plug-in excel helps a lot in solving this kind of problem. Please find the instructions on how to get data analysis add-in in excel in the following link.

We do a sample test when we want to compare the mean of two groups or two variables. In this case one group is the values of Salary corresponding to males and second group is salary corresponding to females. The results of the test are as follows.

t-Test: Two-Sample Assuming Unequal Variances
Variable 1 Variable 2
Mean 52.256 37.196
Variance 346.5242 307.7746
Observations 25 25
Hypothesized Mean Difference 0
df 48
t Stat 2.943791
P(T<=t) one-tail 0.002492
t Critical one-tail 1.677224
P(T<=t) two-tail 0.004984
t Critical two-tail 2.010635
