Why are spores more resistant to environmental stresses?
Solution
Spores are thick and resistant structures produced by bacteria, fungi etc. Spores are tough structures that can withstand adverse conditions of the environment. The spore wall is thick and contain three layers. Outer exine, inner intine and a middle layer. The exine is rough and spiny in some spores. The intine is smooth. The exine or outer sporewall is very thick and can be broken down only when the conditions are suitable. The sporewalls provide safe environment and nourishment to embryo within spore and avoid adverse effects of high temperature, dry and desiccation conditions. When the conditions are suitable, the spores absorb moisture or water and breakdown to release the contents.
