The pressure on 6 m3 of benzene at 20 C is increased by 18 M
The pressure on 6 m3 of benzene at 20 C is increased by 18 MPa. Estimate the expected change in the volume of benzene.
Solution
We know that benzene molecular weight (W) = 78.11 g/mol = 0.07811
we know that P1V1 = nRT1
let mass m = 1 kg
n = m/W
n = 12.80
Gas constant for Benzene = 0.1 kJ/kg.K
T1= 20 oC = 293 K
P1 =( 12.80*293*0.1*1000)/6
= 62.51 kPa
Given P2 = 18 MPa = 18000 kPa
we know that P1V1 = P2V2
V2 = (62.51*6)/18000
= 0.0208 m^3
