What is the significance of water stress in stomatal density
What is the significance of water stress in stomatal density?
Solution
stomaata is tiny pore present on leaf surface is used for gas exchange . it is also use ful in transpiration . wter vapour goes to atmosphear through these pores is the process of transpiration ..
Number and distribution of stomata is related to water avilability . Mostly in dicot plant stomata present lower side of leaf and in monocot stomata present on both side but in aqatic plant stomata is upper part of leaf . to reduce water los desert plats have stomata in deep pit of fleshy leaves and leaves have been reduced in cactus to avoid transpiration .
experiment show the relationshpip of stomatal density with regard to water status . modret water density had possitive effect on stomatal number but less water density reduces the number of stomata . the stomatal size decreases with water defifict .
