Discuss the challenges for terrestrial animals going back to live in the sea
Solution
All living beings originated from sea. Terrestrial animals if in case there is insufficient foods or any other physical factors that alter its population density can be thought of moving back to sea were it came from to maintain its population. Moving back to sea is not much easier . It has to face several challenges. Aquatic animals has different system for survival compared to terrestial animals. The first and foremost thing is adaptation for swimming. It has to gain appendages for respiration like gills and locomotion. Some organisms adapated by impaired vision and some by adaptation in respiration. Fighting on land with limited resources make them to adapt and live in ocean with plenty of prey which are easily available. Terrestial animals are large compared to aquatic animals . This increase in mass is also a major hinderance for theirf adaptation. If adapted they will be the strongest animal in ocean due to greater body mass. Some of tetrapods like whales, sea lions , seals are returned back to sea. But the process is unknown. They have adapted legs to fins and the mode of respiration is adapted for water through gills. Kidneys are needed for land animals but marine animals need to expel the waste product faster than kidneys. Temperatures on land and water is different and they have to adapt according to the temperature of the water. These are the above challenges to be faced by terrestial animals.
