Hey everyone! I hope I can get some help! The question is...
I have a flywheel with an I = 2.8 slugs-ft^2 that needs to spin to 11,300 RPM in about 5 minutes. I need a motor to do this. what horsepower is needed?

I got roughly 764HP using these equations,
HP = (torque x RPM)/5252
Torque = I x a
w = w0 + at; w0 = 0

I just want to make sure and check to see if I used the right units and such. Thank you!

Solution

I feel everything is right except that the units of radius of gyration that is I should be changed to pounds and not slugs so that you get the proper answer.

This is because the formula you are using is the one where the units are to be in pounds system.
