Solution
To differentiate links in the reports, it uses the text of the link as the first half of the Event Label.
Where there is no text (as when an image is the link), it will look for a title attribute (which the user would see if they hovered over the link) and use that instead. When titles are used, they will be inside square brackets ( e.g. \'[Title attribute]\')
After the link text or title (or nothing, if the link doesn\'t have either of those things) will be the href attribute of the link (the URL that it points to). To separate it from the text and title, the href will be inside parentheses.
Many of these labels will be too long to appear in their entirety in the tables on the Google Analytics pages, and the middle of the label will be replaced with an elipsis, like this:
Directory ( https://engin...g.purdue.edu/ME/People/ )
The labels will be links, and if you want to see the entire label, you can hover over the link and wait for the pop-up box. (The entire label is in the title attribute of the link.) Hovering over the above link would show you this:
Directory ( https://engineering.purdue.edu/ME/People/ )
Here are some additional examples of Event Labels:
Our People ( /Engr/People )
Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering ( /ChE/Academics/Undergrad/CHE Degree Map Fall 2014 Updated_2.pdf )
[Research Group] ( #research-group-page )
Let\'s say we wanted to search for any links that contained \"pdf\" in the text or href of the link. Over to the right of the \"Secondary dimension\" button is a search box, and just to the right of that is a link labelled \"advanced.\" Click that. You\'ll then get an area below it where you can construct queries on specific fields, and there are a number of options you can set. The first drop-down button menu should say \"Include.\" If the second button doesn\'t say \"Event Label,\" click it and select Event Label. The third should say \"Containing.\" In the text field to the right of that, paste in the text of the link to the PDF (just \"pdf\" in our example).
