What are some motors that are not compatible with PWM control circuits?

Solution

The pulse width modulation technique is mostly used for the controlling of the input voltage for the variation of the speed.

This techique is mostly compatable only for the DC Motors.

This technique is not compatable for AC Motors because of the following reasons:

1. In PWM control the average value of the voltage is varried but in the AC supply we consider only the RMS value.

2. The speed control in AC motors is done by varring the Frequency of the supply which canot be done in this control (since in this control only the average value of the supply is varried ).

The motors which are not compatable with PWM control are

a. Single phase Induction Motor (Capacitor start and capacitor run)

b. Three phase Induction Motor

c. Synchronous Motor

d. Hysterisis motor etc.
