Trains A and B are traveling in the same direction on parell

Trains A and B are traveling in the same direction on parellel tracks. Train A is traveling at 40 miles per hour and train B is traveling at 48 miles per hour. Train A passes a station at 11:25pm. If train B passes the same station at 11:55pm, at what time will train B catch up to train A?

Solution

The difference in time is 30 minutes. In 30 minutes, or one-half hour, Train A will travel 20 miles. The difference in the speeds is 8 miles per hour. How long would it take train B to go 20 miles at 8 miles per hour? Add that amount of time to 11:55 PM.

Trains A and B are traveling in the same direction on parellel tracks. Train A is traveling at 40 miles per hour and train B is traveling at 48 miles per hour.
