True or False

(a) True or False: When testing a claim about , the P-value method, critical value method, and confidence interval method are all equivalent.

(b) True or False: When testing a claim about p, the P-value method, critical value method, and confidence interval method are all equivalent.

Solution

Confidence interval method gives us range of values, for a level of confidence.. If the hypothesized value does not lie the confidence interval, we reject the null hypothesis.

While p-value method and critical value method are used when we run any hypothesis test like z-test, t-test etc. These test give us a particular value of test statistics. We compare this test statistics value with critical value and decided to reject or accept the null hypothesis. Or we compute the p-value of the test statistics and compare it with the level of siginificance to decide to reject or accept the null hypothesis.

Both critical value and p-value method are equivaent while confidence interval method is different.

Hence,

(a)

False

(b)

False

True or False (a) True or False: When testing a claim about , the P-value method, critical value method, and confidence interval method are all equivalent. (b)
