Indicate which ii the HGL and which it the EGL Are all pipes

Indicate which ii the HGL and which it the EGL Are all pipes the tame tip? If not. which b the smaller? Is there any region in the pipe where the pressure below atmosphere pressure? If so. where? Where is the point of maximum pressure in the item? Where is the point of minimum pressure in the system?

Solution

a)

From the given figure, the height of normal line is more than the height of dashed line from the base at any point.

Since EGL is always more than HGL, the continuous line is EGL and dashed line is HGL.

b)

From the above figure, if we consider the gap between the EGL and HGL, the gap is more in the pipe section from A to B.

This means the kinetic head is more in the pipe AB.

For a constant discharge throughout the system, the pipe with smaller diameter will have higher velocity. Thus, the pipe AB is the one with smaller diameter.

c)

The EGL and HGL lines in the above system are below the actual pipe with in the section B to C. This happens only when pressure in the pipe is below the atmospheric pressure. Therefore, within the pipe BC, the pressure inside the pipe will be less than atmospheric pressure.

d)

The pressure will be maximum at point A as the EGL has heighest value at this point from datum.

e)

The pressure will be minimum at point C as the EGL has negative heighest value at this point from datum.

Indicate which ii the HGL and which it the EGL Are all pipes the tame tip? If not. which b the smaller? Is there any region in the pipe where the pressure belo
